Program Diagram




The automobile industry is a highly centralized and singular sector, with production typically occurring under one roof. Standardization and efficiency are the driving factors, overriding most other considerations or strategies. This model has perpetuated across most manufacturing facilities, resulting in giant boxes that house assembly lines of production. Such a design limits the opportunity for alteration or change in the system due to its fixed and static nature.
The solar industry would benefit from taking a more decentralized approach to the automotive model. A less rigid design with greater mixed use would be ideal for a number of reasons. First of all, remaining flexible allows for future change and alteration to the industry. This is especially important for the solar business, since the trajectory of the market is unknown. Secondly, a distributed network would facilitate an environment for innovation by diversifying production and introducing competition between similar companies. Thirdly, a decentralized atmosphere would provide an improved environment for workers and employees, increasing productivity, retention, and quality. By introducing smaller firms and more of a mixed program, the local environment will improve
